Target Sector
EthosOur ethos centres on the belief that outdoor activities act as a vehicle for personal development, enhancing young people's self-confidence and self-esteem. We see each challenging experience as a journey of discovery in which participants learn aspects of life such as how to trust each other, work as a team, or show compassion. Becoming more fulfilled individuals can and should lead to becoming actualised and valuable citizens. PurposeAll of the proposed activities are therapeutic in and of themselves and can help provide the esteem and confidence necessary for at risk and potentially trouble youths to reach beyond their current position, changing the trajectories of their lives. Creating horizon-expanding opportunities and providing the support from skilled, gifted and credible role models so that adolescents may receive the positive influences required so that they may realise their full potential. Because participants will learn about stepping out of their comfort zone, we will also be giving them something they might not learn in a classroom - greater respect for themselves and their own abilities. One of the best aspects of such events is that it allows young people to try many new things and gives them a chance to shine outside school. Outdoor challenges and experiences that teach children that they can go beyond the limits previously imposed - environmentally and psychologically - will teach lessons that will be remembered for the rest of the lives of those involved. As Kurt Hahn, the founder of Outward Bound® said more than 60 years ago, "we are all better than we know. If only we can be brought to realise this, we may never be prepared to settle for anything less." The benefit will be to the individuals and the community at large. Click here to make a donation |
